What is clinical coding?

Clinical coding is the translation of medical terminology into a unique statistical code format. We process all types of medical data such as a patient's complaint, problem, diagnosis, treatment and convert this into the corresponding coded format.

 

What are the codes?

There are a number of classifications for example The International Classification of Diseases. This is commonly known as ICD10. This classification has been devised by the World Health Organisation and its codes cover all reasons for patients admissions to hospital. Another coding set is OPCS4. This classification of coding covers operative procedures and interventions that patients have undergone whilst in hospital.
